Great Victorian Rail Trail: Tallarook to Mansfield
Victoria, Australia
The Great Victorian Rail Trail follows the former Mansfield railway from Tallarook through Yea and Bonnie Doon to Mansfield, with a spur to Alexandra. It crosses the Goulburn River, passes the brick-lined Cheviot Tunnel and the long bridge over Lake Eildon, and climbs gradually towards the foothills of the High Country. Rolling farmland and river red gums set the scene for most of the way.

Before you go
Visit Victoria describes 134 km of mostly gravel trail with a 13 km spur to Alexandra. Sections have been closed after bushfires: check the trail's official website for current closures before travelling, especially around Molesworth and the Alexandra spur. Water tanks and rest stops are spaced along the trail, but towns are far apart in the eastern half. Wide tyres and a plan for the return transport are recommended.
The route
The saved OpenStreetMap track measures about 136 km in 3 separate pieces, including the Alexandra spur; the official trail length is 134 km without that spur. The breaks are kept as mapped and current fire-related closures are not reflected in the saved geometry.
