Murray to Mountains Rail Trail

The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail links Wangaratta with Bright along the Ovens valley, with sealed branches to Beechworth, Milawa, Rutherglen and Wandiligong. Vineyards, orchards and the rising wall of the Victorian Alps give the trail its character, and the towns along it are known for food and wine. It is one of Australia's best-known sealed rail trails.

Before you go
Visit Victoria gives around 100 km of sealed, easy-grade trail for the whole network. The Wangaratta to Bright leg climbs gently towards the mountains, while the Everton to Beechworth branch has the steepest gradient. Summer heat can be intense in the valley: start early and carry water. Bright, Myrtleford and Beechworth offer bike hire and accommodation; check bus services if you plan a one-way ride.
