The Great Ocean Walk follows the coast of south-western Victoria from Apollo Bay through the Great Otway and Port Campbell national parks to the Twelve Apostles. The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority describes more than 100 km of clifftop paths, beaches and forest, usually completed in eight days at hike-in campgrounds spaced along the route.

Before you go

The walk is designed to be done from east to west. Every night at a hike-in campground must be booked in advance, and the booking is the permit to camp. Some beach and river sections are unsafe at high tide or in rough surf and not all of them have an inland alternative, so check tide times and conditions before each day. Carry water: supplies are limited between campgrounds.

The route

The track comes from the OpenStreetMap relation "Great Ocean Walk" and forms one continuous line from Apollo Bay to the Twelve Apostles. The distance measured on this geometry is a few kilometres shorter than the figure published by the park authority; it is computed without altitudes and is not a walking time.
